The holomorphic Euler characteristic of a projective scheme $X$ is the alternating sum $\chi(X)=\chi(\mathcal{O}_X) = \sum_{i=0}^{\dim X} (-1)^i \dim H^i(X, \mathcal{O}_X)$.
